IT IS WRITTEN
Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.

God’s Word
To meditate day and night on the scriptures is to be at home. The day I don’t read my bible is the day I feel a stranger in a strange land.

The Contemplative Life
The more we are in God’s presence the more we live in the immediate present. The past becomes a collection of old stories, and these stories become harder and harder to recall.
It is as if the ground of our lives shrinks, and the land that was our past falls away and falls away and falls away, so that our heels are always touching the outer edge of the present.
With no country yet ahead, we are reduced to nothing more than a direction and the ground beneath our feet. One day, one day, I will no longer be aware even of that and I will be fully alive only in God.

Theology
Theology is seductive. It seems to be a God-centred exercise, but thinking about God is not always the same as thinking of God.
Let me define it this way. If we think of a person we wonder how they’re doing, whether they need help, we might even telephone or visit, lend a helping hand or offer a meal. It can be a preliminary to interaction. Thinking about a person we often find ourselves trying to explain their behaviour, or trying to work them out, even judging them. But we can’t escape the limitations of our own awareness and experience so, in effect, we do little more than create a story about them.
Theology can be like that. It often seems to lead to little more than making up stories about God. Having a story about God is not the same as having a conversation with God. That’s why it’s better to pray than engage in theology.
